Music To My Ears...

I have been a mom for almost 9 years. In those 9 years, I have attempted shopping with my children only a handful to times. I mean we do enter a store, purchase a pair of shoes, and leave. But we do NOT shop around just for fun. Two boys and shopping for fun are phrases that do not go together. So today, along those same lines, I asked Molly if it would be ok to just quick stop by the store to get her a pair of sandals for our spring break trip. She said yes, she could handle that.

Our deal usually goes, I scan the store for the two options I think are best, the boys pick ONE to try on. Only if there are major flaws with that choice will they try on a second pair of shoes. So after Molly tried on one pair of shoes she shocked me by asking to try on other options. When she made the best choice, she said "Can we shop some more Mommy?" If that was not enough she said "Let's go find something for you." It was if I was hearing the siren song. I had to control my self and not buy everything she thought was cool or "just perfect for you mom." When she tried to help me pick out a new purse and jewlery and then tried to do the same for herself, I was giddy (even though our taste is not even near the same). I knew other mothers experienced this, but never me. It took all my strength not to buy her a purse as she modeled all the styles for me. When I pointed out a little pink purse with sparkles, she tilted her head and said "Mom, that purse is a special occasion purse. I am looking for something to use everyday." Seriously. Is she still four?

In the end she left with new shoes, earrings, a new bow, and a HUGE smile (on Mom).
