Back to Life...Back to Reality...

We have one week of school under our belts!

It turns out that being back is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, the kids are all happy to see their friends. On the other hand, school is BORING! I guess that is the curse of having smart kids. They feel like they know it all even though they have so much to learn. I am learning that even though they are gone, that smartness gets me in trouble too. I made a dozen cupcakes for a special afterschool snack. With my gluten free diet, they should have been safe from mom. So when Zach came home and said…if I have had three cupcakes, Molly has had three cupcakes and Colin has had two cupcakes already and there are three cupcakes for snack today, then what happened to the other cupcake?...I knew it would be trouble from here on out!

The boys are doing well being at school together. It turns out that they don’t see each other much during the day, so maybe that is a good thing. Zach is struggling with all the newness…new friends, new class, new teachers, new rules, and new ways of doing things. He dislikes change with a passion and the new school is no exception, even when he knows it is for the best. Colin is just happy he has a group of teachers that don’t believe in much homework!

Molly is thrilled to be back at Preschool, even though it isn’t real school (according to her brothers). She has several friends from last year in her class and many new friends to make. She has new teachers and a new classroom. She is a bit like Zach and struggling with so much change. She informs me that even though kindergarten will have all new things like this year, it will be ok because kindergarten is REAL school. She is counting down the days until she can go!

Here are some pictures from the first day:
