Spring!

Well despite record breaking temperatures for the past week, which make outside feel more like June than March, Spring has officially arrived.  While walking my dog the other evening, I thought I might understand why people move south.  Three months of winter really isn't that bad, especially when you spend a week of that on the beach in Mexico.  A girl could get use that sort of life!

The crazy temperatures have brought about all sorts of unnatural March behaviors in my children.  The middle child refuses to wear a coat anymore, even when there is a chance of rain (I mean not a chance of snow in sight!).  It is shorts and t-shirts all the way for him!  It doesn't matter if all the clothes from last summer are too small, he is going to wear them.  And the retailers have yet to put out too many summer clothes, so really I can't even replace them with stuff that fits.  He has become my little rag-a-muffin. The oldest asks for a bonfire to roast marshmallows each night.  Apparently he really believes the temps have transported us directly to summer vacation.  In that spirit, he refuses to do any of his homework.  It could be a long three months...or some low scores on his final two report cards...until we arrive in the actual month of June.  The baby of the family has taken to wearing flip flops all the time.  She will throw on a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt when it gets cool at night, just so she can keep those flip flops on.  She really is a true Minnesotan.

My rhythm is completely out of whack with the strange weather and daylight savings time (and the early onset of allergies).  Molly finally looked at me on Monday and asked if it would be possible for me to EVER remember everything she needed for school AGAIN.  Between the wear socks, wear red/green/blue day, bring in an item to share, bring back the library book, lunch bunch/no lunch bunch days, field trip permission slips, etc., I am not sure I can.  My brain has also skipped directly to June.  It did not pass go or collect $200 and I might just stay in June until the rest of the world catches up.  I find I really like June. I find I really am ready to have a break from remembering 1 million things each morning.

Oh spring fever, you are here so soon.  I am excited at the thought of seeing you in full form like the rest of the country seems to do each year.  I am excited at the thought of actually buying spring clothes and enjoying spring like weather for longer than 2 weeks.

Of course, this is the Savage North, so we could be back in the grip of winter in time for Colin's birthday. I guess I shouldn't count my capri pants before the summer solstice.
