Today's Conversation

I have been in a bit of a funk and have a lot of catching up to do...but I had to record this conversation from today...

The background...we had to take Zach to his basketball camp today at 1 PM.  The other two had invited themselves into the neighbors house just as we had to leave.  So rushing out the door I had to round them up from the neighbors house.  As I grumble about always being late and having to retrieve them when they KNOW we are leaving SOON, the conversation begins...

C:  When will we EVER get to do stuff on our own?
R:  What do you mean?
C:  You know like stay home and go to a friends house when you have to go somewhere?
Z:  Maybe when we are like 18.
C:  Maybe when we are in college.
Z:  I am not going to college.
C:  What?  How can you not go to college.  You have to go.
Z:  College is scary.
(a pause)
Z:  When I am college, should I do math or sports?
R: You can do both.
Z:  I am just not sure what I should do as a job when I grow up.  I mean I am a REALLY good basketball player, but I really love math too.
C: YOU AREN'T GOING TO BE IN THE NBA ZACH!!
Z:  What?  How do you know?
C:  Because you would have to be GOOD at basketball.
Z:  WHAT?  I was like the second best in basketball in my class.  EVERYBODY knows that!
R:  You aren't going to end up in the NBA Zach.  Our family just isn't tall enough for the NBA, but you can still play in college if you work really hard at it.
C:  I think you should stick to math.  You are too scared of getting hurt to play sports plus you don't work hard at anything.

The conversation continued with both boys comparing:
1. times they were in a LOT of pain and didn't cry
2. who works harder at things
3. who is a better athlete
4. who has friends who are better athletes.

Speaking of crying...I was laughing so hard through all of this that it was hard not to cry.
