No excuses.

You would think with all three kids in school, I would have plenty of time to get organized.  After giving some slack for the move and the holidays, I should be preparing gourmet meals and sending only organic foods for my children's lunches each day.  I should be remaining patient while I gently correct their behavior with love and understanding.  I should be able to keep track of each child's unique preferences and scheduling needs.  Unfortunately, this week I had a moment that could have qualified for worst parenting honors AND should never have happened if I was staying organized.

Monday night, I took Molly to dance and came home just exhausted.  I went to bed early and could not seem to get out of bed Tuesday morning.  When I finally got up, I just threw on some work out clothes and put my hair into a ponytail thinking I didn't really need to leave the house all day.  I headed downstairs and started a cup of coffee while I checked my email.  Colin came downstairs about 7:15AM and asked for breakfast.  Seeing me on my phone, he asked me a question about the calendar.  As I pulled up the calendar, I noticed that Zach was suppose to be going on an optional field trip that I had signed him up for in October.  The thing about these field trips is the kids are usually suppose to be at school to take the bus by 7AM.  The calendar said the field trip was at 7:45AM.  I had no idea if that meant 7:45AM is when it started down at the UofM or if that was the time he had to be at school.  I looked at the clock and it read 7:25AM.  Muttering a favorite four letter word, I ran up the stairs to jostle Zach awake.  When Zach confirmed that he did have a field trip and he had told me about it the night before, I panicked.  He also let me know he needed a bag lunch and he needed to be at school by 7:45AM.  I told him he better hurry.

After running back downstairs, I realized I really should have gone to the grocery store the day before.  I had nothing to pack for a lunch.  I got creative and packed a pretty crappy lunch in 10 minutes.  I knew he would not be happy come lunch time, but at least he had something. Zach came down the stairs and got his shoes on in record time.  We left the house at 7:35 AM!  We live 10 minutes from school if I don't get behind a school bus or hit a certain light red.  I prayed we would make it.  We made it to school by 7:47 and the field trip bus was still in the parking lot.  I was feeling good.  Once I got Zach checked in and headed back to my car to run home and get the other two ready for school, I realized that he did not have his backpack for after the field trip, he had not eaten any breakfast, and he was wearing the same clothes he had worn on Monday and slept in.
