Days 3-5

I should write about our final three days in Arizona too, even though a lot of time has past...

Swimming...it was the highlight for the kids! They love to be in the water floating, playing, swimming around, and diving for toys. We tried to swim as much as possible because it will be months before we get to swim outside in Minnesota!

The Highlights...After swimming the highlight of the trip was that each kid got to sleep over at Grandma and Buca's one night by themselves. It is so wonderful to be spoiled by a grandparent, at any age really. Each kid looked forward to their night because it meant special time, special treats and a special breakfast. Then, the next best highlight was the night Mom and Dad went out and the kids got to ride around the park in a golf cart, have burgers on the grill and tell ghost stories around a campfire while enjoying s’mores! Really the simple things are always the best!

The Old People...Grandma and Buca had several events for us to attend at their clubhouse. They must eat up there like 100 times a month! Not really, but we were there 3 times in 5 days for a food related something, so you can imagine what life is like in Gold Canyon the rest of the season. Molly got sort of tired of introducing herself to all of the people starved for a young face. When one lady on morning three asked her what her name was, she replied "It is Molly...AGAIN!" Fortunately her voice is soft and the lady was hard of hearing, so she didn't hear the "again." But it was then that I realized she was tired of being polite to strangers!

Goldfield...We went to an old west town on Sunday. We had lunch in the old saloon, watched a gun fight, panned for gold, and had our first major meltdown. It was an interesting place to visit unless you are afraid of loud noises!

Hiking...the only other activity the kids wanted to do was hike. Todd took the boys to Silly Mountain which was a steep but short hike. Then we took everyone to Superstition Mountain and did a hike in Lost Dutchman State Park. They enjoy both hikes, mostly because exploring is their favorite activity! We never did find the Dutchman...

The Drama...it turns out that being four is a great age for travel. Everything you see is new and exciting. Molly was thrilled just to be in Arizona and it didn’t matter if we were sitting and staring at a cactus about to bloom or hiking a mountain. Even the emergency landing at the airport filled with smiles and cheers from Molly. But grandma says her highlight was watching Molly get in on the ghost story action around the campfire. Apparently Molly was extremely animated with her hands emphasizing her entire story, her flashlight making her face spooky and her words as big as her tale...it was all very "ridiculous" and "fabulous." My favorite drama from Ms. Molly was at Goldfield where she just found a rock and decided the entire world had defeated her because no one would listen and do what she wanted. Despite the tantrum, she was so cute that all I could do was snap this picture and smile!
