My baby girl started all day school. I have heard it said that if you do your job right, as a mother or parent, that you will provide your child with both roots and wings. My daughter loves her family and loves to spend time with us. She has her roots firmly established.
But, you never really know about the wings until you send them out into the world. On her first day of school she flew. She put her backpack on, said "love you," and walked away from our car without so much as a backward glance. She walked like a seasoned pro into her new school while other kindergartners looked sheepish and scared.
At the end of the day, she was happy to see me. But, you could tell that she was really a big girl now.
And the thing I found the most amazing about her first day...she refused to eat her sandwich because it was peanut butter and there is a kid in her class with a peanut allergy. She didn't want to hurt her new friend, so she ate her lunch in the car at the end of the day.
