Peanut Butter

I told my mom I was going to write this post and she told me not to because she would be too embarrassed, but it is SO funny that I just have to write it...(plus, Todd's mom fell prey to this too).

My dog loves peanut butter.  My dog is crazy.  My dog is anxious.  My dog is the kind of dog that only a mother could love...and a couple of crazy kids and an equally crazy dad.  So, when we want to calm Emmie down because we have to confine her for a bit, we fill a kong with peanut butter.  Since this past year has been full of stress and change that she cannot understand, she has eaten a lot of peanut butter from her kong.

Emmie is also a dog.  She licks her own butt and eats rabbit poop and now frozen deer poop.  She is happy rolling in dead animals.  In a word, she is gross.  So when it comes time to fill her kong, I don't want to use the peanut butter we non-butt licking humans eat.  I have a special jar of peanut butter for the dog.

A few weeks ago, my mom came to watch the kids while Todd and I had to attend several meetings at school.  We had to be gone over dinner, so I made chicken noodle soup for everyone.  I asked Colin to make peanut butter sandwiches to go with their soup.  In the middle of one of the meetings, we get a call from Zach asking where to find the peanut butter.  Todd takes the call and explains the peanut butter is on the second to top shelf in the middle of the pantry.  Ok, he found it.

The next morning I am preparing lunches for the kids at school.  Molly comes to sit at the breakfast bar and I ask her if she would like a sandwich today or a cheese stick.  She starts crying "I don't want that gross peanut butter. It tastes weird."  I told her it was the same peanut butter we have been eating since she was a baby.  But she insists grandma "forced" her to eat "the most disgusting peanut butter ever."  Later it comes out, "Mom, she made us eat the dog peanut butter.  I tried to tell everyone, but no one believed me!"

Even though she watched me throw the dog peanut butter away.  Even though I showed her that we had the regular peanut butter and it was a very different looking jar.  Even though Todd's mom did the same thing this summer and Molly just didn't know about it so she continued to eat peanut butter.  And even though nothing happened to her, outside of having a gross taste in her mouth because she is so use to taste of natural peanut butter, she still refuses to eat peanut butter two weeks later.

My poor mom! She swears she will get take-out from now on and never let me cook for her and the kids again!
